My Cat, Dash, Has Made Me a Better CEO. Here Are 4 Lessons.

My cat, Dash, is 5 years old. The first time I saw her, she was trying to cross the road, with vehicles speeding by. She was very tiny. And looked terribly frightened.

I was walking back home from the office, with a box full of material samples, when I saw her. Instinctively, I emptied the cardboard box, put her inside, and brought her home.

Reflecting back on our friendship, my cat has not only made me a better person, but a better CEO.

Here are 4 invaluable lessons she’s taught me:

1. Every cat believes that they're the best version of a cat that could possibly exist. Dash is no different.

She has taught me to have utmost faith in myself, even to the point of delusion. To believe that I am the best.

I come from a middle class family. My dream is to one day make Zeyka.ai into a multi-billion dollar company. When I wake up in the morning and tell myself that I am the best; that there's no one like me, I'm able to do some of my best work.

2. Like all cats, Dash simply doesn't give a shit. She doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. She couldn't care less if you like dogs more than cats. She is who she is. It's the kind of indifference that arises when you know yourself too well, when you're too comfortable in your own skin.

As a startup founder, one faces criticism and roadblocks every day.

Dash has taught me that what people think about me and the possibilities for my startup, is none of my business. I must unapologetically be myself. And keep going.

3. Every night, Dash doesn’t stop meowing until I let her out into the garden.

She's taught me to never take “no” for an answer. To be shameless and relentless. To remember, that it’s not over until I get what I want.

4. Dash only really cares about 3 things: sleeping, eating and playing.

Her attitude has taught me to prioritize the aspects of my life that truly matter to me. And then, to proactively work on them, day in and day out. No distractions.
