This is How I Designed a Client-Centric Website And Kickstarted My Freelance Career

I completed my first freelance design project when I was 19 years old and in my second year at SPA Bhopal. It was a 2000 sq. ft. weekend home in Delhi NCR, for a relative.

Over the next 8 years, before starting Zeyka.ai in 2021, I worked on 19 design projects, while juggling between 5 years of architecture school and 4 full-time jobs.

The greatest reason I was quickly able to build my credibility despite being a student, was creating a client-focussed website of my architectural works.

Initially, very few leads came through my website. Most of them came through positive word of mouth. But sharing the link to my beautiful, succinctly written, client-focused website with these potential clients helped me fast-track the client onboarding process. And eventually, over 50% of my leads were coming directly through my website.

Remember these 4 points when creating your website:

1. Most architect websites are designed to impress other architects. That’s the greatest blunder you can make!Your website should be designed entirely from your CLIENT’S perspective. Not your peers. Not fellow architects. Your CLIENTS. At every point of the way, ask yourself, “What’s in it for my CLIENT?”

2. Your website is like an elevator pitch. Your client should look at your website and immediately know what’s in it for them. A design studio’s website with a clear message like "Transforming Your Space into a Sanctuary" on the homepage immediately resonates with potential clients.

3. People love stories of transformation.Collecting video testimonials from clients and featuring them on your website is one of the most effective ways to get more design projects. 4. Lastly, including a feedback form will help you track where clients heard about you. This will help you identify which marketing channels work best and double down on those.
