7 Things I Learnt After Speaking to 2000+ Architecture Students

Hi everyone, I'm Yug, the founder of Zeyka.ai- a startup in the construction space.

I've recently returned from an incredible journey, having the privilege to present the beta version of our product at prestigious institutions like SPA Bhopal, Chandigarh College of Architecture, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Pearl Academy.

Along the way, I met over 2000+ aspiring architects and designers. Here's what I learned:

1. The energy and passion for architecture and interior design among students is simply electric! A whopping 85% aspire to launch their own studios post-graduation.

2. It's inspiring to see that over 40% fourth and fifth year students are already undertaking freelance projects. Their canvas isn't just limited to architecture; they're exploring graphic design, UX-UI design, 3D visualization and more.

3. However, I noticed a gap. While they're mastering design, there's an immense lack of exposure to the variety of materials and brands in the market.

4. Here's something that unites them: a universal dislike for creating Bill of Quantities (BOQs). More than 95% would rather pass on that task.

5. Surprisingly, less than 10% feel confident that they’d be able to deliver a complete residential project, from start to finish, upon graduation.

6. The concept of running a business is alien to most students. There's a misconception that architecture is a solo journey, when in reality, it's all about teamwork, client interaction, and effective communication.

7. Their problem-solving skills are commendable, though. They view design challenges holistically: taking socio-economic, environmental, and cultural factors into consideration.

My takeaway: There's a vibrant future in store for architecture, with such talented young minds. Yet, there's a bridge to be built - one that connects design creativity with real-world application and business skills.

At Zeyka.ai, we're committed to being that bridge. If you're an architect, interior designer, or a student keen on making a mark in this field, let's collaborate and elevate our journey.
